Error 1487 - Optristruct
Hello,
I'm trying to run the tutorial on this Youtube video:
When I get to the part where I run Optistruct (+-min 24), I get the following error:
*** ERROR # 1487 *** in the input data:
Continuation card not allowed.
Can anyone help me?
Thank you very much!

Hi,
Can you share the .fem file please?

Hello Prakash!
Thank you for your answer!
The file is attached. I downloaded it from Altair's website.
Thank you very much!

On the tutorial, on the minute mentioned above, the file is the file named: 02_analysis_complete

Hi,
Go to loadsteps>> Edit the first load step and remove the continuation line for STRESS and try again.

Thank you for you answer Prakash! I can now run the simulation.
What I can't get it's the composite failure, strain etc... I have the Global Output Request setup as told on the tutorial.
Do you think you can further assist me?

I think I have it now, I was running it without propper setting up.
Sorry to bother you, thank you for your help!

HELLO
Can I import my 3D CAD file into Composite analysis directly? My 3D CAD has thickness, but in HyperMesh example, it’s a pure surface. Does that mean I need to make my file a non-thickness CAD?0 -
Hi,
you can import 3D cad file into Hypermesh and automatically extract midsurface and assign thickness.

Hi Hyperman,
1. Can I set force and SPC on the modal surface like picture below?
(I find an example at 42:42 in this video,<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
2. I've already checked the mesh, and it is there. But after I put composite laminate on my model, it's broken like this
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
3. However, I skip this problem and proceed to click 'OptiStruct', there are lots of Error#15.
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
I'll be really appreciate if you can check my file in the link below

Hi,
1. Constraints and loads applied on single nodes will cause stress singularity. For more details refer to:
https://www.comsol.com/blogs/singularities-in-finite-element-models-dealing-with-red-spots/
2. and 3. are due to bad mesh. You should remesh the model using the these tools:
- Geom>autocleanup to clean up the geometry
- 2D>automesh>QI optimize (F12) to mesh using quality criteria
- 2D>elem cleanup
- 2D>qualityindex
- tool>check elems>2D (F10) to check elements
There are more then 4 million elements in the model you shared. Reduce the element count (increase element size), unless you have access to supercomputer to solve this model in a reasonable time.
There are some great learning materials from Altair university- Practical Aspects of Finite Element Simulation is a good starting point.

Just deactivate stress & strain output from global output request. Since this is a composite material CSTRESS & CSTRAIN should be fine.
