Field of View Analysis on Platforms

Is it possible to make FOV (Field of View) analysis on FEKO for the antennas placed on any platform.

Example: I have a phased array antenna that will be placed on any platform. I am curious about automated result for FOV. Does platform block the signal line of sight.

I know that CST has such a property but I don't know about FEKO.

Can you help?

Thanks

    Hi Omer,

as far as I know there is no defined workflow for this yet. I have already noted this as a feature request for the development and hope for a timely workaround.

Just thinking: Maybe it would be possible to calculate the farfield pattern of the antenna on the platform and save it as a .ffe or .sph file. This file could then be used in a second model as a point source in the center of a large hollow sphere to see the areas of the sphere that are illuminated. For the sphere you could use RL-GO or PO.

But as I said, this is just an idea.

    Best regards,

    Torben

    Hi @Omer Can DABAK ,

An easy way to perform a FOV analysis is shown in the attached example.

    • Put an elementary source at the desired position (ideally omnidirectional antenna)
    • Select the model to be solved with faceted UTD
    • Select direct rays only (no reflections, no diffractions)
    • Create a full 3D far field plot
    • View this in a surface graph and set the colour map such that all which is zero is blue

Note, on my Windows 11 laptop I presently can't change the individual range in cartesian surface graphs (we're investigating...) This probably works for you.

    Hope this helps!
