Base thickness of shell elements in topology optimization

hello ,

    in topology optimization using buckling constraints ,we have to give some value for base thickness.

( Analysis > optimization > topology > base thickness ).

thickness of my shell element 6mm (property > PSHELL)

what is the purpose of base thickness ?
