I installed a demo of Evolve 2015 and the addition of the new poly-mesh modeling tools are great. Very powerful with its integration with the other solid tools and functions. I see these new functions as a very serious competitor to the Rhino/T-Splines workflow that I use for CAD character creation and in some ways, at least, surpasses it. I'll have to keep playing around with it.

Another workflow that I've been experimenting with is the Rhino/T-Splines/ZBrush combination. Sculpting in ZBrush and exporting ZRemeshed models to be converted to NURBS when brought back into Rhino with T-Splines. I had to try out the potential of this in Evolve 2015 and it works very well. I'll attach a few images of the ZBRush sculpt, brought into Evolve and converted to NURBS and rendered using the Keyshot plug-in. Very nice!

Glad to hear your comments mcramblet!

Did you try the new rendering environment in Evolve 2015? In fact our new rendering provides the same if not better quality than Keyshot and you dont have to export or use any plug in.

Let us know if you need any help.

    Enjoy!

I did play around with some of the new rendering functions and those are very nice, as well. I noticed the nice features of being able to select both cpu and gpu for rendering. I'll need to do some more native rendering testing, to get more familar with it.

I have been working with 2015 for several days now to make the switch from 2014. so far everything seems pretty great, especially the rendering quality.

I am having one problem though. I basically want a seamless white background with some soft directional shadows to help give the idea of a floor. I just can't seem to get the shadowcatcher to catch shadows.

I have tried spot lights and a plane with 'shadowcatcher' material applied, but i still can't get any shadows to show up. If i apply a white plastic material to the ground plane, I can get the shadows I am looking for, but the plane gets grey the further it is away from the lights.

If I am going about this the wrong way, I could really use some help working this out.

Currently the Shadow Catcher only accepts shadows from the environment maps, so this is the reason you are not seeing any shadows from the spot lights.  We are working on adding this capability in the 2016 release.  In order to get the effect you are looking for just make sure you are using an environment map for your illumination or the physical sky.

Let us know if you have any questions or need more help with this.

    Thanks
