Design Variable
• The parameters, properties, or elements that OS can change to achieve different responses
• Prototypically usually an entire part or a significant part feature
• Represented in a trade diagram as the area or n-dimensional volume of the plot

You can link PBEAM or PBEAML (if you are using 1D elements) as a design variable in Size panel, you can either change the cross sectional area or moment of inertia to change the cross sectional parameters.
