On GPU computing

Hello!

I was going through the Optistruct User Guide and I found a section about GPU computing. I read a little bit more about it and from what I understand, my GPU should be compatible.

Although it is not one of the high-end, recommended GPUs, K1100M has Kepler architecture and 384 CUDA cores, so in theory it can be used for general computations.

However, I was not able to activate GPU computing in Optistruct. I tried with the command -gpu but then the Optistruct optimization window simply does not pop-up. I can see that it is processing nodes and elements, but no window appears and no process is launched. I also added -gpuid 1 without -gpu, but then optistruct does not seem to use the graphic card.

I am running Optistruct on a 64-bit Windows 7. On one page in the manual it's written that GPU computing is available on all platforms, on another - that is only runs on 64-bit Linux. I guess this is the problem, but I just wanted to make sure.

    Hi John,

Yes, GPU computing is available in 64-bit Linux platform only and GPU computing is available for static analysis/optimization.

    Thanks for the reply!

    I'll test it in the autumn :)/emoticons/default_smile.png' srcset='/emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x' title=':)' width='20'>
