Hey

I am just having issues in optimization, where its runs the file but it somehow doesn't connect all the design and non-design elements. This is how my model is set-up:

1.) I have set an objective of minimize volume.

2.) Using displacement and

3.) All non-design elements are set as a 3mm offset from the bolt holes.

4.) All bolts have been modeled as rigid elements.

As seen in the image it doesnt seem to always connect all the bolt holes with some design material. Does anyone have any idea how i cant set it up so that it always connects all the bolt holes irrespective of any load going through it.

    Hi Vikalp,

Try to play with the iso value settings in ISO contour panel, HyperView.

If you still don't see any connections happening, try to change the optimization responses.

Also,in OptiStruct>>post>>OSSmooth you can use the option Connection detect to connection

    Hey Prakash

I tried a connection detect suggestion that you gave. It worked only on a section as seen in the picture in between. But some of the holes are still not connected.

And yes i'll get in touch with the local support as well, thanks for that.

But could you kindly suggest what else i could do in terms of optimization responses to connect them.

    Thanks

The concept design shape provided will trace out the load paths and will remove material where it is not necessary,

If you need certain regions to exist no matter what the optimization result is , you must make it to be non design space.

You can use connection detect and vary the density while post processing your optimization result to help modify your optimization result as per your requirement,

You can use min member thickness, manufacturing constraints etc while pre processing to affect the results somewhat,

Remember that topology optimization will only give you a concept, you will have to add material where necessary yourself too.
