Equivalent Mesh for Contact Faces

Hi to all,

I Have a little 'Problem'. I Want to make an equivalent mesh of the Contact surface of two parts to get better convergation. I meshed first of all my nut of the screw. Then I got the Contact mesh between the washer and the nut with faces Tool. Then moved it with organize to the washer component.

The problem is now that I want to go on with the moved mesh from the nut and mesh the washer with it. But when I use automesh it dosen´t recognize the moved mesh and meshes the washer without the moved mesh.

Is there any way to say Hypermesh, that I want to mesh this component with the moved mesh. I already put points on the surface of the component with the nodes of the moved mesh in a past work. But that is not very effective and elegant.

Hi Daniel,

The query seems bit confusing. Can you upload a snapshot of the model, so that we can understand the query better.

It is not possible to direct HyperMesh to mesh a component like other. But you can try to achieve the same by controlling the element density and other mesh parameters.

The problem is now that I want to go on with the moved mesh from the nut and mesh the washer with it. But when I use automesh it dosen´t recognize the moved mesh and meshes the washer without the moved mesh.

As a workaround can you hide the washer component from the model browser, and mesh the rest displayed components

Hi,

In this case you have to separate/trim that particular area of the bolt surface and has to select the remaining unmeshed surfaces for meshing, so that the trimmed surface will not be selected.You can split this area using split surf-line option from the quick edit (F11) panel.

Finally you can equivalence the nodes either from the Edges Panel (Shift+F3) or replace panel (F3).

The Area is already seperated/trimmed and separately meshed. Equvalence would be also there an Idea that I would Have followd. But I thought there could be a function in which you can declare: mesh with this moved Mesh an keep connectivity to the already existing elements. Because when I would mesh first of all the mid section (Lets say i could get exactly the same mesh like the moved mesh), then quit automesh then go again in an mesh the upper section, Hypermesh would keep the connectivity with the previously generated Elements. But it doesen´t when you move the a generated mesh from another component to the component you want to mesh ( Of couse with the premise that the moved mesh lies on the surface of the component you moved it to )

Hey @DerPusher,

I believe you are using solid mesh to model both the components. Also, you need them to be have common nodes(share nodes).

The red component( say nut) seems to be symmetric. Therefore, if you create the section , and revolve it 360, you should be able to capture it precisely.

Therefore, take the nodes of blue compone (say bolt) , and create a section elements (2-D Mesh). Then use the various options in solid map, with different various sub options (elements to match/along nodes/line..etc), and you should get it.

If you see the setup, you just need to get the mesh only for (1/4)th both blue and red component, rest can be reflected, and equivalenced.
