Optistruct - No separation contact
Dear all,
I'm a student in mechanical engineering.
I'd like to ask you for help regarding specific contact simulation, specifically NO SEPARATION contact.
I don't find this contact type in my HW v.14, both in CONTACT and PCONT cards.
- Could you please give me any advice to setting NOSEP contact in OptiStruct ?
- Also, is this contact recommended in a non-linear analysis?
Thank you in advance.

Hi Gabriel,
Can you go through the pdf attached. Everything related to OptiStruct contacts is available in this file.

Thanks for your time.
After several attempts, I set NOSEP contact type in a case study similar to that reported in 'Optistruct Contacts' file (pp 21 and 22). NOSEP contact has been setted in PCONT card, but the contact dosn't remain closed during the non-linear analysis and than the master and slave surface are separated.
What am i doing wrong ?
I attached the .hm model and .h3d results.
Best regards,
Gabriel

In your case it is not working as expected. It should be run in 14.0.210 solvers patch.Then only it would behave as expected.

Thanks for your reaply.
The results shown in .h3d file, previously attached, have been obtained running the simulation with this version:
- optistruct_14.0.0.85 (Jan 11 2016);
- optistruct_14.0.210 (Apr 6 2016);
- optistruct_14.0.211 (May 11 2016).
Are there other solver patches not installed?
Best regards;
Gabriel Mita

Thanks for your help.
In recent days i worked with my model. I tried to change the clearance value (entering different negative values as shown in .jpf file attached) in order to close the contact initially open.
In this case the plates remain attached during the simulation.
Is this an incorrect way of working?

Hi Gabriel,
From help, clearance can be a real value. So I think it is OK to have a negative value.
But, The contact will be closed if the clearance between the two surfaces is equal to or less than the clearance value.
