Headlamp modeling in SimLab and CFD analysis using AcuSolve
Wed, September 27, 2017 at 11am ISTThe design of head lamps plays an important part in the development process of modern cars as it contributes significantly to the first impression of a car. However, beyond the design aspect technical requirements have to be fulfilled. Headlamp models can be a complex assembly with hundreds of parts. For an engineer to model it is itself a challenge. The modeling time will also depend on the details in parts that need to be preserved and the handling of the space between adjacent parts for quality elements to be created. In addition, the model size (number of nodes and elements) should be small to reduce the solver time.
SimLab addresses the problems by reducing, if not eliminate, the need to simplify the CAD model thereby reducing the time for CAD cleanup operations. There are several tools that help create conforming mesh, adjust spacing between the bodies, etc. to generate a good quality TETRA mesh. Most important is the automation of the individual tools that reduces the overall time to generate a mesh ready for analysis. In addition to a mesh, the surfaces are grouped for easy boundary condition assignment.
With respect to CFD-Thermal simulations, the knowledge of the maximum temperature of different components of the head lamp is of great importance during the development process, as the temperature limits of the various materials are not to be exceeded the material melting points. Therefore, CFD Thermal simulation is an important tool for the prediction of temperature distributions in head lamps during the development process. There are several modes of heat transfer from the bulb surface including conduction through the solid enclosure, natural convection, and radiation between surfaces which need to be modeled. This webinar outlines the CFD preprocessing of headlamps using SimLab and CFD Thermal simulation approach using AcuSolve for investigating the thermal distribution at various components inside an automotive headlamp'
The methodology will be explained as below
Step 1 : Introduction
Step 2 : CFD modeling & Preprocessing of Headlamp in Simlab
Step 3: CFD meshing in Simlab
Step 4: CFD Thermal boundary conditions in Acuconsole
Step 5: CFD Thermal simulation in AcuSolve
Step 6 : CFD Thermal simulation results in Acufieldview.Who should attend?
