Relaxation factor is primarily a number which is used to converge the solution.

What should be the value of relaxation factor?

Generally, value between 0.2 - 0.4 provides good balance between achieving small progression of solution and extra compute time needed to achieve the convergence.

Is it necessary to give the value of RF?

    Nice Question...!

For simple problems, you can keep the value of relaxation factor at its default one.

As relaxation factor works on suppressing the solution (from previous iteration), surely it is going to take a lot of time. Taking the project span into consideration, you have to use it when it is really needed.

    Hi,

I was going through some research papers, where q-p relaxation method was mentioned for topology optimization.

Where q- Relaxation parameter and P - penalization parameter.

So, I would like to know, how to co-relate these q & P parameters with the parameter being used in optistruct for topology optimization.

    Thanks

You should probably post that question to the OptiStruct forum - rather than this AcuSolve forum.
