Hi Bongirs,
When material is deformed by external loading, energy is stored internally throughout its volume and this internal energy is also referred as strain energy.
You can get the strain for elements by creating a time history output for the elements. Output parameters are components of stress and strain tensor expressed in different coordinate systems, plastic strains, strain rate...etc
Please serach for /TH/SHEL in the Help Menu which gives more details on the same.

Hi George,
I got it in /TH/BRIC, so its strain energy density.
I also wanted to ask you that I am not getting EPSD data in HyperView.
I am using LAW2 and its supposed to give me strain rate for my elements.
In thr contour plot it is listed, but the contour is all zero data. I cannot find any strain rate data in T file.
So please tell me how to get the strain rate?
I am using 3D tetra elements.

Hi Bongirs,
This variable EPSD is available for both Animations and Time History in case of shell elements; it is only available for Animations in case of solid elements.
For that please add /ANIM/ELEM/EPSD in the engine file and also strain rate filtering needs to be activated (Fsmooth =1) in the material card.

The strain-rate sensitivity is an important factor for materials. Materials can behave very differently at the higher strain rates typical of moderate to high speed dynamic events.Strain-rate sensitivity can be included in a number of different explicit material models. This is an important parameter for deformation-based design criteria and for models in which damage and failure is based on strain.
You can also go through Strain Rate Definition in the Help Menu where the formulations are shown.
