I appreciate your quick reply. Does that mean I can assume that the contact is at least acceptable, and carry on without worrying about the effects on the results - in my case, normal modes - attributable to it? Furthermore, is there a method to check the quality of a contact in Optistruct?

what do you mean by quality of contact? you will have to check the normals of the contacting elements, make sure they are facing each other , that is very important.
I really dont see how contact surfaces created on extra elements affecting your analysis
