How to handle densities
Dear user and support,
In topology optimization I give OptiStruct the initial density, is it possible to tell Optistruct it should start in the first Iteration with e.g. 80% of the initial value(density)? Similiar to 'MATINIT' only for density and.
That would be very helpful.
Thank you!

Hi,
I think you can use MATINIT to set a design space density for topology optimization.
By default, For topology optimization runs with mass (volume) as the objective, the default for MATINIT is 0.9. For runs with constrained mass (volume), the default is reset to the constraint value. If mass (volume) is not the objective function and is not constrained, the default is 0.6.
Please refer to FAQs on help for more information.

You can change the move limits (the allowable change of the design variable in each iteration step) for the first iteration. The move limits are defined for each optimization type differently. The parameter you need to use in topology optimization is DELTOP on the DOPTPRM statement.
In HyperMesh, use the opti control subpanel in the optimization panel on the Analysis page.

Hi,
thank you! Is it also possible to choose different 'starting densities' for different components (or elements)?
Best regards!
