Importing from Inventor

Hello,

Im new to using Hypermesh and am looking to use Optistrut for topology optimization on our chassis for formula student, all of our previous CAD work has been in Autodesk Inventor and I was wondering if there was a way of importing the model from Inventor to hypermesh, or if it would be better to go via PATRAN first? I have tried using STEP files however the geometry is only partially transferred, with many elements becoming single lines rather then modeling the round rod. If these lines were at the the midpoints this would be fine however they are not, is there anything I can do on either program in order to correctly transfer it?

For example: http://prntscr.com/9wqirp

all these tubes are the same diameter and same size however they all get imported differently

Thanks for your help

Matthew

It would be nice if you could share here (forum, not me) how you fixed the problem.

Hypermesh, or like another software, supports some CAD native format, but not all. The usual way is passing by 'neutral' format, like STEP
