Impact Mass
Hi,
In our simulation a component of mass 10Tonn is impacting another component of very low mass. We gave type 2 tied contact between the components and ran a simulation. But in the results, the contact was not detected and the component is just passing through the other instead of making contact.
When the components are having the same mass, the simulation ran and the contact was detected. Just i have increased the mass to 10Tonn by changing the density.
Could you please suggest me why the contact was not detected? Is that the problem with tied contact or the way i have increased component mass?
I appreciate your help......

Bhavana,
can you try with Spotflag= 25 in type 2 interface?
Please Note: If you are a commercial customer, you can contact your local support for a script that will help you do the same @ http://www.altairhyp...ortProduct.aspx

Prakash,
I have changed spotflag to 25 as discussed but we observed the same behavior. Contact was not detected.

Hi Bhavana,
what is the motive to use type2 contact by the way?
Type 2 is a tied(Glued, freeze) interface.
can you try with Type7 instead?

Prakash,
We have three components. We gave type2 between first and second component and type 7 between second and third. So that the first component will pushes the second, then both first and second should slide into the third component as the third component is a tube. If we are using type7 between first and second, the first will distorts the second component instead of pushing. So we used type2

Bhavana,
Please watch the below video.
I have two pipes with type2 interface.
Look at the animation (on the left) of where the contact is not detected. In this case the entire red pipe is constrained.
in the upper right animation, one side of the pipe is constrained and in the bottom right animation both sides are constrained.
maybe you have to see the BCs in your model.

Release the translation constraint in the direction of motion and run the job.

Prakash,
I have checked my BC's... the component is not constrained in the direction of motion.

can you share the model files?

Prakash,
I have uploaded the files to your dropbox. Hope you will find a solution.

Hi Prakash,
Have you checked the model?
