in a topology optimization problem do we have an optimum level for compliance ? I mean , is that right to increase the Force to deform the part to plastic point ? I ask it since once I had an elastic material , I had to change the compliance , but I was wondering how much should I change it ? it there an optimum level or something ? and why ? how is it explained by theory ?

as i know when you choose your objective as minimum compliance, minimum compliance means finding the maximum stiffness. you set your optimum level by playing with the constraints. this how i use.

if you define a material model with plasticity then you can see plastic deformation behaviour as well in optistruct.

i hope i understood your problem.
