About command 'PURGE'

Do we have to switch the display off for doing executing the command 'Purge' ?

I have seen in some tutorials for doing Volume purge the tutor had offed the display of Surfaces and vice versa for Surface Purge.

Is it required to off the display for purge?

It is not necessary to switch the display off while working on purge command.
