hello,

I was just wondering if the composite failure index value needs to be less than 1 always in order not to cause any kind of fracture or snapping of the structure? Or is it allowable to use a structure even if the value is more than 1?

    Hi,

Yes, if failure index is more than 1 then the ply is said to be failing. you can find more about failure index and strength ratio from any composite fea books.
