Issues Exporting Solids from Inspire to SimLab in Altair

Hello experts,

I am performing a simulation in SimLab that is connected to Inspire. In the following picture, you can see the solid I am using and the parameters I used to draw it.

My problem is that when I try to export this solid to SimLab, Inspire stops working, as shown in the following video.

I must add that this step is crucial because, without it, I cannot continue with the simulation, as I need to conduct a study with that simulation in HyperStudy afterward.

I already solved this issue once by uninstalling, deleting some folders created by the installed Altair programs, and reinstalling them. This connection worked for two weeks, but the same error has occurred again. Additionally, these programs are installed on a university workstation, so repeating this process is very time-consuming.

How could I solve this problem definitively?

    Hello Santhoshkumar,

I am sharing the model in the attached file. I must add that the connection between Inspire and SimLab stops working with any file I try to export, not just this one.

Additionally, here is the information about the workstation I am using:

    • Processor: Intel(R) Xeon(R) Gold 5220R CPU @ 2.20GHz (2 processors)
    • Installed RAM: 256 GB (256 GB usable)
    • SO:    Windows 11 Pro
    • Version:    23H2

    Thank you for your help.

    Best regards,

    Jorge

    Hello,

Thank you for sharing the Inspire model.

Could you please set up the Inspire path in "SimLabSetting.ini" file which is available in "C:\Users\<User Name>\.altair\SimLab_V2024\simlab". The Application settings directory can also be find in File > Preferences > Applications > General as shown below.

    image

Open the "SimLabSetting.ini" file and set the Inspire path manually as shown below.

    image

Once you set the path, please check the Inspire import. Let me know if the connection stops.

    Thanks & Regards,

    Santhoshkumar

    Hello Santhoshkumar,

I have already followed the procedure you suggested, but Inspire still doesn't work. I am sharing a video where I show how I changed the link as you suggested and tried importing the model again, but the issue persists.

    Hello Jorge,

Thank you for testing and confirming.

Could you please do the following and let me know?

    • Test 1: To check connection between SimLab and Inspire, please click the "Inspire" icon in the Extension ribbon. The Inspire will launch. Import the model in Inspire and then go to SimLab ribbon and click on the "Reflect in SimLab" icon. The model will be loaded inside SimLab. Please refer the attached video. (Reflect_In_SimLab.mp4)

    • Test 2: While importing the Inspire model in SimLab, the model will be loaded back in Inspire and export as a Parasolid. The Parasolid file will be imported back in SimLab. In your case, the Inspire is crashing either while loading the Inspire model or while exporting the Parasolid file. To confirm this, kindly send the Temp folder. To get the SimLab temp folder, please go to File > Preferences > Applications > General". We will go through the Temp folder and get back.

    • Test 3: Since the Inspire is crashing, can you please uninstall Inspire. Once the uninstallation is done, delete the following folders.
      • C:\Users\<User Name>\.altair\Inspire2024
      • C:\Users\<User Name>\Documents\Altair\Inspire

Once you delete the above folders, Install Inspire again and import the Inspire model in SimLab. If it still fail, please send the Temp folder as explained in the "Test 2".

    Thanks & Regards,

    Santhoshkumar

    Hello Santhoshkumar,

Apologies for the delayed response, but yesterday was a holiday, and I couldn't perform Test 3.

I completed Test 1, but unfortunately, it didn’t work. I am attaching a video showing the process.

    image

Regarding Test 2, unfortunately, it didn’t work either. However, I am sharing a video that demonstrates the steps taken and the corresponding Temp folder.

    image

For Test 3, I asked the workstation administrator to perform the process. After uninstalling Inspire, deleting the folders you mentioned, and reinstalling the program, it finally worked.

    image

However, I would like to point out that this is the second time I have had to do this, and it takes a considerable amount of time. If this issue occurs again, should I send the Temp folder to check if Inspire is crashing either while loading the model or while exporting the Parasolid file?

Thank you again for your help.

    Best regards,

    Jorge

    Hello Jorge,

Glad that the "Test 3" is working fine.

If the issue occurs again, please let me know.

Thank you for sharing the "Temp" folder. Will check this and if we found anything, will let you know.

    Hello Santhoshkumar,

I managed to resolve the issue by uninstalling and reinstalling Inspire, but unfortunately, the same error has occurred again on the workstation. This problem happened when I tried to open a new Inspire file I had created for a new simulation. I didn’t like how the model turned out, so I went back to Inspire to correct what had gone wrong, and when I tried to re-import it into SimLab, the error occurred again.

I have a video showing the import failure in SimLab on the workstation, along with the corresponding Temp file.

    image

Additionally, I asked a colleague who also has SimLab to try with the same files, and he was able to import them perfectly. Here, I am attaching the video from my colleague:

    image

My question is: Is there a way to fix this issue without having to uninstall and reinstall Inspire every time it happens? Uninstalling Inspire is not a viable option for me since I’m using a university computer.

I appreciate your help with this problem.

    Best regards,
    Jorge

    Hello Santhoshkumar,

Thank you for your quick response.

Fortunately, I was able to solve the issue without having to uninstall Inspire. It turns out that simply deleting this folder: C:\Users\<User Name>\.altair\Inspire2024, as you mentioned in Test 3 earlier, did the trick.

Interestingly, when I delete this folder and then open Inspire, the program automatically recreates it. It’s as if I’m opening Inspire for the first time, and this resolves the issue without needing to uninstall and reinstall the software.

Thank you so much for your help and guidance.

    Best regards,
    Jorge
