Bone Modeling Issue

I am trying to model bone (cortical bone on the outside and spongy bone on the inside). To do that I have created a surface, then created a 2d mesh, then offset that mesh with the solid layer command. After that I then took the 2d surface I made earlier and made a shell layer that is the exact inside layer of the previous offset. I then go to a volume tetra mesh. Note: this is done in separate components. I then have 2 components, one component is the solid outerlayer. The inner is then a tetramesh. My problem is that when I export to abaqus, The inside component is not deforming at all. Is it because the inside shares the same nodes? Could it be because abaqus recognizes them as two separate parts? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

If I understand correctly, your outer layer (hexa) should share the same nodes as inner layer (tet). If not the case, you can check by using 'Tool' => edges and 'equivalence' the coincident nodes.

outer layer is C3d4, inner layer is C3D6H. I believe they share the same nodes, Does this make it a continuous part and not two separate parts?

May be the problem is with contacts between two components. Check contacts.
