No contact exists! (using Optistruct Auto Contact tool)

Hi all,

I'm a student, we have started using Hypermesh some months ago. I'm analyzing an earth moving machine's part. I have imported step which is composed by about 10 parts. These parts are in contact between them (slave or freeze). For accuracy reasons I used boolean operations ( {A-B, B}) to make mesh continuity between parts in contact. After that, I finally got a continuous mesh but Auto Contact tool is not able to find contact between elemens. It looks like, using that particular boolean operations, A and B are in a freeze contact, but I need to use this particular contact only for weldings so in some cases A and B can be in a slide contact between them. Can someone help me? Thank you!

Thanks for your interest. To be more clear, this is the model I'm analyzing:

I would realize a continuous mesh between purple part and orange part through welding (blue part):

So you are trying to create a freeze contact between purple and blue contact correct?

Yes . There should be a freeze contact between purple and blue parts, and another freeze contact between blue and orange parts. Purple and orange parts must be in a slide contact and mesh must be continuous between purple-blue and blue-orange

I think it is not possible to have a slide contact when there is a part in between. Instead you can have freeze between purple and blue and slide between blue and orange.
