Results don't look correct

Hi,

I've been running optistruct analysis on a cad model and the results that I am getting don't look correct.

I've tried many different ways of fixing this, such as changing the mesh or applying the force acting upon it in a different way but the results are still coming back with hardly any material left on the part.

I have attached two files showing what I input into optistruct and the other showing the result I get back from optistruct in it's final iteration.

I'm not sure about what I have input wrong, could someone please help me?

Thanks,

Alasdair.

    Hi homedogally,

From the model, I can see that loads and BCs are applied on the design space.

It is not recommended to have loads and BCs on design space. Study the model and make few non-design segments.

I'm not really sure of how to apply the load and the BCs a non design segment, would you be able to give me instructions on it?

I applied the load and BCs to a separate nondesign component but I know get error 1000: incorrect data in field # 3.

    Hi,

I followed the instructions and added the load and BCs to a non design segment but I am still getting the same problem.

    HI homedogally,

In HyperView>>ISO contour panel, play with the ISO value (shown in red in the attached image).

Start from 0.2 and check whether you have a desired topology.

If you are still not happy with the topology results, then try adding manufacturing constraints to your model and run the analysis.

    Hi,

Even at 0.02 the topology looks wrong.

    Hi,

Try adding manufacturing constraints and play with the responses in your model setup.
