Incus Malleus Joint - Contact and Non Convergent Issues
Hello,
im new in Optistruct and doing a project given from my docent. The project is about IMJoint simulation to see how it work with different parameters ligaments. In here, CGAP with preload will be use as ligament and those ligaments (CGAP) will pull the Incus to Malleus (Malleus is in BC condition) to make a contact. but when i run the simulation, i encounter with Non Convergent Issue
*** ERROR # 941 ***
NON-CONVERGENT NONLINEAR ITERATIONS FOR SUBCASE 1
Suggestions:
ANALYSIS COMPLETED.
from the Out. file, after 10 iterations it cant not be convergent. and i checked the hyperview, the load factor up to 9, the Incus is being push away from Malleus.
So i tried to change the CGAP to Flip and from the result there is no Non-Convergent error, but the Incus is still push away from Malleus.
Can somebody help me?
Thanks in advance

hi..
thx for the reply..
Thanks. I add some modification to fix the convergence of the model (please see file below).
Can you please explain the boundary condition. I want to verify the results ...0 -
Hi Mr. Farouk;
Thx for helping me. i will check the model.
from what i get the docent told me, the Malleus (green model) is in stationary condition and the ligaments (CGAP with preload) will be pull the Incus (red model) to Malleus. after Malleus and Incus make a contact which i think will be a Slide effect, then i will give a force (in various position) to Malleus so i can see how the ligaments react to the force.
and somehow the docent said it is small displacement, but from what i read in a paper about IMJoint, it needs large displacement and CGAP is not support large displacement. But thx again Mr. Farouk.
edit:
i checked the model, but the Incus is push away from Malleus. ill try change cgap to flip.

Hi Ossen,
I ran your model but I don't understand what's the problem ? Can you please more
Best regards,

Hi, Mr Farouk,
thanks for the fast response. i think when the 2 bones make a contact, they should be have slide effect. but from my model the bone is deform and dont have slide effect. i tried to increase the youngs modulus but i got the same result. or maybe im wrong?

You can try to activate the tangential component of the contact force by adding friction in CGAP property ...

Hi Mr. Farouk,
thx for your help. the problem is solved /emoticons/default_smile.png' srcset='/emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x' title=':)' width='20' />
i got a new assignment, still same model but new mesh and with solid property. I try to make two load steps, which the 2nd load step begin from the end of the 1st load step.
in the 2nd load Step i use CNTNLSUB with SCID from 1st load step. But somehow the result is the 2nd load step begin from the start of the 1st load step.
i read the manual that said CNTNLSUB doesnt support non-linear quasi static. and i read from forum, if we change spc D to F it maybe work. i tried lookin the FEM file with text editor, cant find it. maybe im doing it wrong. Can u please help me?
