I want to change particle solids density of generated particles.

Seek help about EDEM!!

I set up particle solids density 100,000 kg/m^3 at first when generating particles. After generating all particles, I'd like to modify solids density to 2,700 kg/m^3. However, unfortunately, it seems it cannot influence the generated particles. Their density is still 100,000 kg/m^3 without any change. So, once a particle has been generated, its properties seem cannot be changed anymore.

Is there anybody have an idea that can modify solids density of generated particles?

Hi Henry,

In addition to Jerrin's comments, changing property of a bulk material doesn't affect any of the created particles because with existing property simulation results are stored in .h5 files.

From your question it is understood that your intention to changing solid density is initial solid density of the material given is not realistic/correct and you are trying to update solid density.

once if you update/modify any of the properties in EDEM you should solve the job otherwise you can not see the affect of modified properties in simulation.

However if you try to change property of bulk material of the during the course of simulation there is a possibility of creating multiple particles/material models.

if you want to create 2 different bulk materials then try to create 2 bulk materials under bulk material section and use respective material to create in factory.

it is not a good practice to change any of the property after creating the particles because EDEM uses Raleigh Time Step. Raleigh time step depends on Solid density, shear modulus, Poisson Ratio and Minimum Particle Radius,

Hi Henry

Please verify that you are calculating the properties of the particles after the density change. You can do that in the Properties of the particle and clicking on 'Calculate Properties'. The best way to ensure that the particle properties are calculated after every change is to check the 'Auto Calculation' box.

As you said, the particle solids density cannot be changed once particles has been generated/created.

Actually, at the beginning, I set up 100,000 kg/m^3 is to generate an organized particles structure easier and more convenient. As the following screenshot.

But unfortunately, the solids density cannot be modified back to 2,700 kg/m^3.

I think only can I do the simulation from the beginning.
