Thermal Analysis and Design of Inverters - The Myway Case

Inverters and converters are critical components for electric vehicle charging and energy management during operation that require specific thermal management. Otherwise, high heat loads in the system can lead to thermal runaway, which can damage the vehicle, batteries, charging stations, and can be unsafe for the occupants

Two key challenges in electronics thermal management, which impact the prediction of temperatures, and can lead to costly over-designs and components failures are: (a) accurate loss calculation of power modules, and (b) complexity of the geometry, air flow and thermal paths.

This case study (see document for download on the top right) explains how Altair’s solution for electronics thermal management and power electronics permits engineers to address such challenges by creating a high-fidelity model of a real inverter, where simulations are compared to real measurements.
