Crashbox are an important component in Crashworthiness. They allow to dissipate efficiently kinetic energy coming from a crash situation. They are widely used in automotive industry. OptiStruct Explicit enables to perform such studies efficiently.
The goal of this article is to showcase OptiStruct capabilities with a simple crashbox example. The following studies were performed:
- Different integration schemes have been evaluated.
- Comparisons have been conducted between Radioss & OS explicit. Results are consistent between the two softwares.
- A sensitivity study wrt number of cores has been conducted. Results are not sensitive to the number of cpus used, which is good.
This article includes:
- 1 ready-to use OptiStruct model
- Altair OptiStruct version is V2024 (and compatible with later versions)
- The Unit System is in (kg, mm, ms, GPa)
- 1 ready-to-use Radioss model in Dyna format
- 1 session file to output results efficiently
- A report with a detailed description of the model and the results of the study.
