creating .fil file

Hello,

I request for following:

I need to use result of one analysis as data for next analysis.

I was told to use IMPERFECTION command. I i tried to run the second analysis, i found that .fil file are needed from my 1st analysis. How to do this?

A question of this effect was posted by rahul and answered by eric.

But i could not get the solution properly... may be i was reading the corerspondance without context.

Based on your query I assume you are using Abaqus solver. To make abaqus write a .fil file you need to use a specific abaqus cards:

*ELEMENT FILE and *NODE FILE. If you are doing Abaqus explicit analysis you need to use the above cards with *FILE OUTPUT.

These card be created using step manager in HyperMesh. Look for 'Output request' >> Result file (.fil) when creating a step.

Does OptiStruct also support such a feature? I would like to apply some modes from a linear buckling analysis as scaled imperfection to my initial mesh for further analysis.

I think you are referring to buckling analysis due to imperfections.

Imperfections in buckling analysis can be introduced in three ways

    Imperfections due to geometry and
    Imperfections based on eigenmodes.
Imperfections defined directly by changing the nodal coordinates.

Now, Geometry based imperfections can be solved either with Implicit(NLGEOM) or Explicit (RADIOSS) using arc length methods - Riks, Crisfield etc..

Imperfections due to Eigen modes needs the modes of a eigenvalue extraction or eigen buckling analysis which gets super positioned to create imperfections.

I don't think OS currently supports this.
