I downloaded and installed Altair Feko 2021 Student Edition and followed the instructions here for the placing the license file in the correct folder: https://altairuniversity.com/altair-student-edition-licensing/

Upon starting Altair Feko 2021, everything seems fine.\

Pressing the CADFEKO button here works as well:

However, once I then click "Create a new model" or "Open an existing model" the CADFEKO window freezes until it is manually closed.

Here is some information about the CADFEKO being used:

Has anyone encountered this problem and what was your solution?

This could be related to the graphics card. Have you tried updating the graphics drivers?

You can also try to disable the graphics card in the device manager and check if this still happens?

Thanks for your response! I tried updating the graphics driver, but it appears to be up-to-date. As per the images below.

I did not try to disable the graphics card - it is the only source of display output to my monitors so disabling it would prevent me from seeing output.

    Hi again,

I managed to get CADFEKO working.

    My solution:

    1. Open Altair Feko application.

    2. Navigate to Home->Settings->Rendering Optionsimage3. Change the graphics driver from "OpenGL" (the default) to "Auto select" or a known driver then hit "OK"

With this, I was able to create a new CADFEKO file.

This suggests that there may be something wrong with my OpenGL, the communication of it with CADFEKO, or CADFEKO itself which may be worth looking into later if further issues arise.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction @mel!

Actually, you're right. I missed the fact that you were able to start CADFEKO, just without a 3D view.

I am not sure about the student version, I would have to install to double check, but the options I have are:

You could try any of the above except Software (Software uses the CPU for rendering) and then try the "Hardware" radio buttons again.

Fyi - The rendering options for the student version appear to be the same per a screenshot I took and provided below:

In my case, DirectX 9 and 11 are the functional options.(as is the Software option)
