If we go 3 months without using vovnotifyd daemon , this daemon goes down and we need to start manually and then kick off a run using the mail notification –
Is there any way we could have a crontab monitoring the nc setup to check for that daemon every so often?

You may be able to create a "Liveness" task which calls or uses code from the vovnotifyd autostart script we provide in the installation. It would be good to find the reason for the crash of the daemon, if you continue to have problems, I recommend opening a case with us, someone can work through a debug scenario with you to help determine a root cause.
The autostart script contains code to start the vovnotifyd daemon, additional information on that can be found at the bottom of this page and in $VOVDIR/etc/autostart/start_vovnotifyd.tcl:
