I had a doubt. Is it necessary to do mapping. Means can i directly do 2D mesh using quad elements and then extrude it to get 3D mesh without needing to do mapping at all?

Hello Tejas,

No you do not have to do mapping. It is just one of the solid mesh tools that works very well for some geometry.

You can also you the Hex Solid Tool, which has a bit more user input but isn't as restrictive.

I would look at the Along Vector tool

I recommend you look into taking the training as well as this topic is covered.

Yes, you can use the General Hex Tool .

It seems it will be really difficult to do 3D Mesh of the bolt and nut. So i'm thinking of using bolt connector tool of hypermesh instead to create using RBE3 elements. Its possible to do this after 3D Meshing of plates right?

and also i need to assign friction forces between obtained bolt and existing plate. Will it be possible?

You could defeature the threads to hex mesh the bolt.

Or use tetmesh.

Or connectors works as well.

Hope you are doing well. I can't really thank you enough for the guidance. I had a doubt regarding connectors. I realize rbe2 is suited for the bolted joint, pls correct me if I'm wrong.

During creating the connection, using rbe2 for the bolt. Should I also create a beam element? or rbe2 is enough? Please help me with this.
