Weld Material in SimSolid 2020

Hi,

With SimSolid 2020 seam welds are modeled as 3D solids.

Weld material properties are taken from the adjacent parts.

I can see the stress contour at weld body.

If the adjacent parts have material properties difference then how is the material property of the weld calculated?

Thanks!

The material with higher modulus is assigned to the weld. There will be an option to assign material directly to the weld in the next couple of releases.

From point of view of security, this is NOT a good choice.

If there're different materials, you have to choice the lower modulus for the weld.

As you're speaking about Simsolid & Welds, for your information: here's my request to Altair dev team:

Since release 2020, the reactions on weld are given in two surfaces of weld (see below picture):

But when you compute the strength of weld, you work NEVER with these plans. So the correct way is giving the reactions on 'throat plan' as old release:

The best way is giving the users to control himself how he want get the reactions: on two faces or on throat plan.
