Choose nodes near a surface within given tolerance or in solid?

Hi, is it possible to choose nodes that are near a surface within a specified tolerance or that are located within a solid, but are not associated to it in any way?

    Hi Jason, this looks like the tool I need. However, could you point me to the documentation entry about this tool? Some of the options are not quite clear, and I'd like to know if it's possible to directly select or save the matching or overlapping elements/nodes from this panel.

     

    Edit: Never mind, I found it in the PDF doc :) Nonetheless, is there a method to select/save the nodes/elements that match or intersect and retrieve them later, without having to select them manually in the viewport?

    Ok, I see now that only 2D elements are supported by this tool. I should have mentioned that I need to find 1D beam elements this way. Would you happen to know a way how to efficiently collect all the elements or nodes that are close to the spherical surface in the model that's attached to this reply? Any help is greatly appreciated.
