Composite Plate Theory

Hello,

I'm using PCOMP to model my composite structure, I wanted to know that which theory does it use to solve?. Is it possible to change the theory from CLT, to first order shear deformation, or higher order shear deformation?

    Hi Akshay,

OptiStruct uses classical lamination theory to calculate effective stiffness and mass density of the composite shell.  This is done automatically within the code using the properties of individual plies.

The composite interlaminar stress is calculated based on the first-order shear deformation laminated plate theory.
