Transform FemFat files into h3d file

User: "Loïc_V"

Hello,

One of our clients wants to know if its possible by any way to transform a FemFat file into an h3d file in order to review it in Hyperview.

They were using the software but not anymore, and they are asked by one of their clients to access some previous results, wich are FemFat files.

Thanks in advance,

Best regards,

Loïc

    Hi @Loïc_V,

Have you tried using HVTrans for converting FemFat files to .h3d?

If not, it will be worth giving a try. To know about using HVTrans, kindly refer the below blog.

    Many thanks.

Apparently, the FemFat files aren't supported by HVTrans, at least on the 2025 version tested by our client.

Is there other methods available ?

    Kind regards,

    Hi @Loïc_V,

You could also try using Altair Compose and its CAE Reader and CAE Reader 3D utilities. I haven't tried reading femfat files but you could give it a try. If you can read results with those, you can export them as H3D files.

    Hi @RSGarciarivas ,

This does not work either with FemFat files.

Is there something else the client can try ?

    Loïc

Not with Compose, unfortunately. If these results can be read with something like ParaView, you can leverage ParaView's Python API in Compose and then write as H3D.

First step on this would be checking if ParaView can read these files.

    Hi Loic,
can you tell, which file you mean by "femfat result"? FEMFAT has its own database format file with ending .fps (femfat permanent scratch). This file at least needs a FEMFAT versions of the same or newer than it has been created to be imported. After import you can select results, that have been stored during the analysis in this fps file and create a h3d file with 6 results from that database.

    @Loïc_V,

sorry, it's me again. For FEMFAT questions it is always good to ask at FEMFAT Support Team in Austria (HQ) by email. There is maybe also a workaround which is complicated to describe here and requires more information about the version of FEMFAT and results they want to export.
