Defining contact surfaces to export to Abaqus

I have a model that is composed of a large tetrameshed section with a square removed and hex meshed. I need to tie these components together in abaqus using surfaces, but when I import into abaqus it combines the two sections into one part making it difficult to select the individual surfaces.

Is there a way to get hypermesh to export these two sections as individual parts and/or is there a way to define surface sets in hypermesh that will import into abaqus?

Thank you,

-Clay
