Altair EDEM offers a series of instructor-led online courses to help you quickly learn the basics of the Discrete Element Method (DEM) and applications of EDEM. There are 2 training sessions covering a broad range of topics, including Contact Models and Calibration. Each session last approximately 2 hours and includes a Q&A section with our EDEM expert.

EDEM Introduction - Training
EDEM Introduction - Day 1:
This session covers the basics of the Discrete Element Method (DEM), the EDEM workflow, and how to set up an EDEM simulation. We’ll introduce you to The EDEM Simulator, key EDEM Contact Models, and kinematics. We'll also cover particle creation, and when to use the 3 different EDEM particle shapes.
During this section we'll covered the EDEM - Prerequisite eLearning course
EDEM Introduction - Day 2:
In this training session, we will build on the EDEM Introduction day 01, and explore the EDEM simulation workflow and post-processing features. You will learn how to run simulations, visualize granular material behavior, and extract relevant metrics and data for analysis. You will also learn how to create dynamic videos.
We’ll also explore several EDEM applications, and demonstrate how post-processing tools are used for analysis. The image below shows an example of coloring layers for visualization purposes.
EDEM Contact Models and Calibration - Training
Contact Model - Day 1
During this session, we’ll explain the Contact Models available in EDEM, how to use the models, and how to simulate different types of granular material from free flowing to cohesive and stress dependent.
Calibration - Day 2
This session introduces the philosophy and the importance of calibration. You will understand the calibration approach for coarse particulates and for fine materials such as powders. we'll also introduce additional calibration tools, including EDEM material libraries, Calibration Kit and EDEM Cal.
