Pre-tension in a cable

Hello,

I am trying to model a beam supported by tension only cables. At the moment I use a CGAP element to model the cable but ideally I would like to add some pre-tension.

Does anyone know how to model pre-tension in tension only cable?

Thanks in advance.

Are you using Optistruct solver for analysis?

Bolt pretension is possible in optistruct using 1d & 3d elements. But to simulate tension in Cable Rod element is also good.

Could you share snapshot of your model?

    H Rahul,

    Thanks for your reply.

The model is of a yacht mast.

Depending on load direction it is possible for some cables to go slack. Therefore, I am not sure that Rod elements are correct since they can take compression.

would be nice if you give a try with Rod elements.
