Import with proper orientation
Hello all,
What are the methods to import CAD data so that it is reoriented in a particular way in Global coordinate system??
For eg. If I want to import a CAD Model from Iges such that its XY plane now corresponds now to XZ plane in global coordinate system in Hypermesh.
Is there any particular import options without having to change the orientation with CAD program?
Also I find documentation about the create system option for creating local coordinate system bit confusing can anyone explain it with an example?
Are loads , constraint always assigned in Global Coordinate system?
Thanks

Hi Pratik,
I don't think there any particular import options available to retain the orientation system followed in CAD. But I'll check this and will update if any workarounds are possible .
Skews and frames are used to define local directions and I'm attaching a document on the same for your reference.
Local system can be created using node reference and by axis direction methods.
Using axis direction method, the user defines the system based on the axis direction. But for node reference, based on the node selected by the user the local system is created. Moreover using axis direction method user can select a number of nodes and the local system will be created in every nodes selected whereas this is not possible for node reference method. And the most important is for systems created by node reference method the local system created is also updated when the node is translated whereas for the other method it doesn't.
User can create a local system and the same can be assigned the loads. If no local system is assigned the loads will follow the global coordinate system.

Why dont you just simply import it and use modifying commands like rotate, position,... to fit its orientation?

Hello all
I have found a work around,
I am not sure if you can rotate solids and surfaces, but I could rotate elements in the orientation i wanted.
Thanks and Regards
