Optimizing base of a 6- Axes Roboter

Hello,

I am studying mechanical Engineering and have to create some kind of Introduction on how to use Inspire. For this task I have to show it on an topology optimization.

The requirements are:

- It must be a Multybody System

- It must contain motion and forces

The Model I have to use is an ABB 6- Axes Roboter.

The part which has to be optimized is the base- part of the Roboter.

So far I understand, I can´t set the base part as "Ground" because it also is my Designspace.

The sections where it gets bolted to the real ground are partitioned and therefore became non- Designspace.

At this point I got my first optimization results, but I am unable to run a new analysis on the optimized parts. As I start the analysis there is a notification that there should not be forces applied to the designspace and the analysis will not finish. To detect where the problems begin, I tried to start a new motion analysis on the optimized part and found out, that the connections/ supports for the base are lost and the model collapses because of the gravitation. Because of the missing supports there are no loads/ forces applying on the base and the analysis can´t get any results, but this is just my theory.

I hope someone of you can help me to solve this problem.

Greetings

David

    Hello,

To achieve what you want you will need to optimize your part inside the Motion tab. Please see Tutorial: Optimizing a Part with Motion in the Inspire documentation.

    Thanks,

    Matthieu

    Hello Matthieu,

thank you for your advice. I tried the optimization inside the motion tab from the beginning on, but always failed to analyse the optimized part.

After watching the mentioned tutorial I set the partitioned part where the fastening would be as "ground" and connected it via fixed joint to the designspace. i somehow managed to get a result which I then could analyse, but only once. Now I tried to reproduce the process and fail again.

How would you set the connection/ joint between the partitioned parts for the fastenings and the designspace/ base.

    My approaches were:

    - Add support to the middle of the base (because it also is partitioned) and the bottom surface of the base

    - Create fixed joints and Add support as these would be screws

    - the method I mentioned from the tutorial

    greetings
