HELP: Area connectors composites?

Hi Guys,

 

I am desperate for a pointer in the right direction as I am struggling to understand a few issues I am having with area connectors. I am trying to model a carbon fibre bonnet, consisting of an inner panel and an outer panel. I have set up the laminates for both, but now need to connect them. Ideally, I wish to use area connectors 'adhesives' and as I am a relative beginner, I am not sure how to do this and the tutorial on area connectors within the Altair Learning area isn't helping me here. I wish to also try and maintain a gap of 0.2 mm between the two parts, but, the parts vary between a 0.18 mm and 0.2mm gap in places. 

 

So first question, is there a way of constraining a fixed gap between two components? And secondly, how would be the best way to apply the area connector to the parts? I have tried myself and I am getting no where, please see screen shot, it says comps have no projection, what does this relate too? 

 

I am desperate for anyone to kindly help me here.
