hello ,

I wanted to mesh this solid in 3D tetra my teacher advised me that for the ends in the form of hollow cylinder (for the connections) I can not model them it will have no impact on the static calculation only thing that should i do is to replace them by A point mass for this I must calculate the center of each cylinder then create a node and attach it to the rest of the mesh by rigid elements. Then on this node apply a concentrated mass equivalent to the mass of the cylinder. This will simplify the mesh without losing precision. I do not understand how I'm going to do this on HYPERMESH and what does it mean by not modeling them should I delete them ??  if you can explain me more I will be grateful.

Best regards

    Hi,

For the hollow cylinders you can find the center manually using distance panel (F4), three nodes>>circle center option. Create a seperate component collector for rigids with no card image, no material and no property.  From 1D panel, select rigids and in independent node option select the center node and for dependent nodes select multiple nodes option and select the nodes inside the cylinder. Finally, you can go to 1D panel, select masses and select the rigid center node and enter the mass value. The element type will be CONM2 which defines a concentrated mass at a grid point of the structural model.
    Hope this helps.
