Creating CBEAM's using detached mesh elements

Hi,

I am aiming to fill a section of a mesh with CBEAM's. I have meshed my geometry and then detached the elements and created offset nodes. I then use the find edges tool to identify the edges. Now I have the edges identified, how do I create CBEAM's of these offset elements? I can individually create the CBEAM's by manually clicking them but I have hundreds of offset elements.

Kind Regards,

    Hi,

not sure if I understood your query- try these solutions:

-to convert plot elements (created by find edges tool) to CBEAM use 1D>config edit

-to create an array of 1D elements between similar meshes/nodes use 1D>linear 1D

    Hi Ivan,

Thanks for the reply. It is the first answer you suggested. But, when I select config edit, CBEAM is not one of the options available. Should it be there?

    Hi Ivan,

Thank you. I did what you suggested but the elements have not turned into CBEAM's. What does the config edit tool actually achieve?

    Hi Laurence,

the Config Edit panel is used to make changes to the configuration of existing elements.

Actually, the elements should be CBEAM after config edit>bar2. You can verify with Card edit.

A good practice is to the use Organize panel to move those elements into another component with PBEAM property assigned, or at least rename the ^edges component because using edge panel again will overwrite the existing elements.

The orientation of CBEAM elements should be updated with 1D>bars>update. Use the 1D detailed element representation to visually check beam orientation.

    That should Hyperwork ;)/emoticons/default_wink.png' srcset='/emoticons/wink@2x.png 2x' title=';)' width='20' />

Attached is a simple cantilever model, where CBEAMS were created following the above procedure.
