Meshing

I need to know if there is any method to increase the element size in an already meshed component. While meshing i used element size of 5 mm but the geometry is such that it automatically takes few elements size to be less than 5mm.

I am simulating motorcycle crash against a rigid wall. For my model, minimum size of element coming out is 0.14 mm. Due to this time step is in the range of 1e-7 and simulation takes about 12 hours to complete. When i checked element size then 10 % elements have size less than 3 mm and 4% elements have size less than 1 mm and so on.

I came up with an idea that i can merge the elements with small length to in crease element size. Is there a way to solve my problem this way? or If there is any other way out then please help me.

If I understand correctly you are using tetra elements, so you can remesh your small elements locally just changing mesh parameters.

No, i am actually using shell mesh.

You can also remesh shell elements too selecting locally (2d-> Automesh -> Elements (instead of surface at left side)) and change parameters.
