Exact difference between Session and Template

Hello, 

 

I have been using HM and HW for quite sometime now. To review multiple iterations I use report templates and overlay results on top of each other. 

However, I can accomplish the same by saving a session file, editing the .mvw file and load in multiple models by changing the result file path. 

Now, is there any specific advantage of using a report template (.tpl) over a session file (.mvw)? apart from just saving time to change the result path?

report templates are used to add iteration results to the session file with overlay/append/replace functionality. Manually changing the result file path can load different iteration results (similar to replace), but cannot change the number of iteration results  (overlay and append).
