stress levels interpretation during the impact moment
Hi everyone I performed an impact analysis and I got a very high stress that exceed the elastic and rupture limit of the material, in the reality the part does not break; here is the confusion
I know that an impact load produces a high stress during a short period of time in the order of ms in my case and because this short period of time the impact wave did not reach a level where the part would break.
I would like to know experiences comments or suggestions about this.
Thanks /emoticons/default_smile.png' srcset='/emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x' title=':)' width='20'>

I have seen few engineers take acceleration as the fundamental output and to add displacement and stress are more appropriate. Few take the energy output to predict whether sufficient energy is absorbed or not for failure since stress based failure on a transient platform like drop, impact, etc.. is complicated.
