The use of Connectors and Contactsurfaces to connect design- and non-design space

I´m a new User of HyperWorks and want to use Optistruct for my graduation thesis. I already have some experience with ANSYS. My major task is about topology optimization.
I read a lot about how to connect two components. There are two main opportunitiys to realize that, is that right?
Firstly, HyperMesh provides the Connectors which create connections between two (or more) components via elements. Secondly in Optistruct you can use contactsurfaces to establish a contact between components (without elements).
I´m not really sure in which case I have to use which option.
In my case I want to establish a connection between design- and non-design-space. In my opinion it is better to realize it with connectors, because the (linear static) analysis is more efficience than a non-linear analysis.
Can you agree with that? Maybe you have some hints for me /emoticons/default_smile.png' srcset='/emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x' title=':)' width='20' />

Yes, it is better to have connectors or rigids (freeze contact) when using linear static analysis as contacts are non-linear and may not provide right results when using linear static analysis
