DOF in SimSolid

Hello everyone,

 

I'm a new user to SimSolid.
Although i have read some documents from Altair but I see that it is very difficult to understand about SimSolid method.

 

My question is related to SimSolid method, that is: how DOF is associated with surfaces, volumes, points, lines,.. ? 

Can anyone give me a simple example about this state?

Hi,

 

- SIMSOLID does not use the point-wise degrees of freedom (DOF) inherent in traditional FEA.

- SIMSOLID DOF are functionals with geometrical support in form of volumes, areas, line clouds, and point clouds.

- This provides the ability to handle geometrical imperfections, as well as assembly contact imperfections like gaps, penetrations and ragged contact areas.
