So far one has to go to 3D to see an overlayed map (tiff, or bmp of the area under study). Can this be done simply in the 2D viewer as well?

I don't know what is the main intention of your question..
As you know, ProMan provides the 2D view and 3D view.
Let's say your map consists of two databases: overlaid Topographical and Building databases
If you use the 2D, you need to use "Change heigh in Display" under ProMan >Display to check the all the overlaid map,
If you use the 3D, you can more easily check the map, thanks to the bird-eye view.

Thanks for the reply. My question is concerning bitmaps layers. Let's say I add an overlay bitmap background (to show the actual geographical map of a certain area). This can be only visualized in 3D, not in 2D, no matter the height that I choose.

Please try to change the attitude (z) .. when adding the bitmap file to ProMan. If the bitmap is lower your topo database, it might not be seen in 2D view.

thanks. I tried and gave an height larger than any topo-related point. This had no effect. Is there a working example anywhere?

My problem is "indoor" with a topography. So, I have two vector databases, one for indoor, one for topography. In this frame I see the 2D bitmaps are not showing up, unless in the 3D view. Your example works but it seems it does not apply here.
