EDEM-FLUENT coupling libraries

I want to get into the EDEM-FLUENT capabilities for some studies I need to perform. Following the tutorial (https://learn.altair.com/learn/course/cfd-dem-coupling-edem-and-fluent-elearning/table-of-contents/introduction-to-the-edem-fluent-coupling?page=1), when executing the Windows GUI compilation app, the most recent version for both EDEM and FLUENT are 2024; I have EDEM 2025.1 and FLUENT 2025 R2 installed on my computer. If I give the compiler the install directories for my versions, it says that the EDEM version is not defined.

Is there a more recent version of the GUI compiler? Or how can I begin to do this?

Additionaly, I found a series of three tutorial for the EDEM-FLUENT coupling, which ask to compile the necessary UDFs beforehand. is it the same thing as the GUI compiler?

I am running the coupling on Windows. The set_edem_env_vars.sh file appears to be intended for Linux and is not included in my Windows coupling package. Is there a Windows .bat equivalent that I should run? Rebuilding the case without "." or spaces didn't solve the issue

Hi Felipe,

The coupling hasn't been updated or tested for the latest versions of EDEM and FLUENT however I have added your e-mail to the following link, you should be able to access the 2024.0 or earlier and 2024.1 and later versions. I expect you want the 2024.1 or later version.

It may not show all the options but you can manually put the link in to the version you want. There is a read me related to the installation of the additional libraries.

I used the coupling GUI with EDEM 2024 and Fluent 2024 R1. However, based on the documentation I should have 6 folders in this path (/
edem_coupling_build lib_edem_coupling /win 64) , but I only get 4 after compiling. When I try to read the journal file in Fluent I get an error "eval: unbound variable: with "Error Object: #f". I attached some images of the issue.

Hi, I believe there are some issues with Fluent 2024 R1 which were resolved in the R2 version. Do you have access to this version to recompile and try the 2024R2 version of Fluent?

I would try recompiling the libraries but in a different location.

Try in a file location that doesn't have the . or any spaces in the file path, i'm unsure if this would cause a problem.

Another thing to check is if the FLUENT_INC environment variable is set and if you ran the set_edem_env_vars.sh script?

Hi @Felipegumo95 you are correct that the .sh file is for linux, that shouldn't be required.

On compilation you are using the Windows_GUI_compilation.exe ?

As you mentioned earlier maybe there is an error if not all 6 libudf.dll's are created. The command window should show outputs from visual studio so it maybe good to check these for errors. Also a log.txt file should be created, if you can check that file for the first instance of any error been reported that may highlight an issue.

The only way to make it work was with Ansys 2024R2.
